The certification process
Each item is evaluated and examined in minute detail by experts, who note any faults, study the wear (traces, scratches, etc.), what is known as the mint luster, that is to say the matt, silky aspect of the surface which indicates a good state of conservation, the quality of the striking, its sharpness, and its patina...
The process for banknotes is similar. The experts note the wear (creases, stains, writing, ...), the crispness and the aspect (for example, the vibrancy of the colors), the proper centering of the printing, and the serial numbers.
