Pictones, Santones, Statère à la main
1st century BC - Electrum - VF(30-35)
Profile / head to the right, hair made of two rows of locks. The first, encircling the face, is made up of half-moon-shaped, encircled locks, while the second is made up of flame-like, encircled locks. All around, pearled cords with small human heads at the ends.
Helmeted androcephalic horse to the right, surmounted by a stylized charioteer (helmeted?), holding the reins with his right hand and brandishing a torque with his left. A crescent-shaped volute emerges from the horse's mouth. Below, a hand is set on a yoke-shaped bracket.
This coin is part of the series of staters “à la main” attributed to the Picto-Santons. It belongs to Group A of L-P Délestrée's classification. Unfortunately, it is difficult to determine the exact type, as the strike was slightly off-center and the nose, which helps to determine the type, is out of the flan.
